Frequently Asked Questions

Following are some frequently asked questions. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

I have a set budget and can’t afford to spend more – what if the build goes over budget?

All Granny Flats are fixed price builds. You will know exactly what is in each plan before you purchase, so there are no surprises.

What do I need to start the building process?

Before we can start the building process, you will need a Geotechnical or Soil Report (depending on where the building site is), Certificate of Title, Project Information Memorandum (PIM), Building Consent application, and a site plan. You will also need power and water to site and usually a potable water test. We can organise all of this for you – or you are more than welcome to organise it yourself.

Who takes care of utilities?

We can organise all utilities to ensure your new build is move-in ready, including power, phone, internet, water and driveway if required.

How do I know how much my consent, driveway and power will cost?

We will go to your building site and measure everything to obtain site-specific individualised quotes to present to you.

Can I modify my Granny Flat later in life when I am not as mobile as I am now?

Every Granny Flat has been designed to future-proof for disabled access. Simply select the future-proofing option when customising your design.

Does my Granny Flat require regular maintenance?

The exterior cladding, windows and roof of all Granny Flats are maintenance-free, so there is no ongoing painting or staining required.

Who will be building my Granny Flat?

Your Granny Flat will be built by our team of registered Master Builders.

What sort of guarantee does my Granny Flat have?

All Granny Flats come with a Master Builder 10 year Guarantee and our own NZ Granny Flats Personal Guarantee.

What if I want to relocate my Granny Flat later in life?

We can customise your Granny Flat to enable later relocation – just select this option when customising your build.

How will I know if my local council permits this size Granny Flat?

Floor size allowances vary from council to council so we have purposefully designed a range of Granny Flats to ensure they meet council planning requirements.
